About Karavodin Studios
Elena Karavodin was born in Los Angeles, CA into a family of artists and scientists. An eye for
detail, reasoning and proportion combine to blend art and science in her work. Elena studied at the
Laguna College of Art and Design, Laguna Beach, CA, receiving her B.F.A. in 2002, with an emphasis in
Illustration, Graphic Design and Fine Art. Her work has been shown in several group shows throughout
the United States including Galerie Lelong, New York, NY, Artist’s Space, New York, NY, and SCA
Gallery, Pamona, CA. She considers the native California environment to be a strong influence;
ocean and desert landscapes, and images of nature are also prominent in her work.
Elena launched her own art company, Karavodin Studios, with the goal of applying her creative skills to
bring personalized art to San Diego residents. Her focus over the past several years has been custom Fine
Art and Portraits. Her custom Fine Art has included Abstracts, Landscapes and Coordinating Interior Pieces.
Portraits have ranged from children to adults, even beloved pets, all within the context of their
environment.
Artist Statement
Art is the tool that I use to show my emotions, to express my beliefs, and to share new thoughts
and ideas with others through unique visual representations. Shape, color, content and concept are
the cornerstones of each piece. Working with bright oil colors, hard lines, and a loose painting
style, I produce images that are often layered and pieced together, one on top of another. These
images range from realism to abstract, but never fully commit to either. A step back and the
montage comes together, reforms, and reveals itself as my vision. I am truly inspired by the
nature that surrounds me. As I see the environment quickly shrinking away around me, I feel
it is important to bring back that element through my art. Using organic shapes, I create images
that have unplanned outcomes, reflecting a reality in nature that we see all the time.
While creating I strive to bring a sense of truth to each subject. The truth of each piece
will only fully come together through the process of painting. It is my hope to create a
sense of peace and wonder in the viewer; to encourage the viewer to look further into the
piece until they find something new, something they hadn't seen at first glance. But beyond
self-expression, my aim is to use my art as a tool for speculation, inquiry, and
the evocation of new social ideas.
